Michelle Bettinson

Michelle Bettinson’s work is a product of her inexplicable attraction to desolate and isolated environments. The subject matter is intentionally ambiguous in order to evoke a surreal atmosphere and feeling of disquiet. A recurring theme in her work is the idea of leading the viewer into a place of uncertainty, with the symbolic emblem of the gateway helping to achieve this. The subtlety in her choice of pared down colours and delicate brush-strokes works towards creating a sense of melancholy, perhaps the most integral concept to her practice.
