Lis Woodrow is interested equally in the beauty of the natural world and the struggles of human existence. She is particularly interested in the interaction between people and the environment; our reliance on and also destruction of it. She is fascinated by decay and industrial landscape.
The way that time works on landscape and human construction totally absorbs her. Also the interplay between fabrication and nature, the way they erode and interact with each other; sometimes different layers in time coming through from the past.
She sees the outer world and converts it into her inner response, which is sometimes abstract, representing the feeling about what she sees and experiences through colour and texture. But recently her work has become more figurative, often depicting expansive, desolate landscape with industrial elements, but also expressing the beauty of natural form.
